Market overview

Gold spent the previous session consolidating inside a narrow band after an extended advance, with buyers pausing near the 3,440 area rather than committing fresh capital at the highs. Volume profiles taken from the sample dataset show the bulk of activity clustering just beneath the recent peak, which is typical of a market digesting gains rather than reversing them.

The broader structure remains constructive as long as trading holds above the rising short-term moving average. A daily close beneath it would be the first genuine warning that the corrective phase is deepening into something more meaningful.

Technical picture

The stochastic oscillator has unwound from overbought territory and is now flattening in mid-range, relieving the negative pressure that capped the last two attempts higher. Price continues to trade above the 50-period exponential moving average, and that average is still sloped upwards, which keeps the bullish bias intact on the intraday charts.

A bullish continuation pattern is visible on the four-hour timeframe: a shallow flag drawn beneath the prior swing high. Flags of this type usually resolve in the direction of the preceding impulse, so a decisive break of the flag ceiling would open the way toward the upper target listed below.

What would invalidate the view

Losing the first support on a closing basis would neutralise the short-term bullish scenario and shift attention to the lower band of the expected range. Beneath that, the corrective structure would take priority and the metal would likely retest the base of the last impulse leg before any renewed advance.

Trading plan

Momentum traders can continue to favour buying dips while the first support holds, keeping risk defined below it. Range traders may prefer to fade extremes of the expected band. As always in this sandbox, the figures are illustrative sample data and are not trading advice.
